Waterloo's second eleven got off to the best possible start with a confortable 3-0 victory and also a clean sheet which was well deserved by a solid back four and good goal keeping display by stand in keeper cowley!
The white men battled well as they were down to the bare 11 with new captain R Cain and Griffin unavailable, Maddock nursing an injury and also a few cry offs on the day!
Waterloo controlled the majority of the game and really 3-0 didnt reflect the amount of chances that could have made the game a cricket score (richy would know something about that), but the best of which fell to my self as i latched onto a threw ball and rounded the keeper, but only to go on and be denied by the post!
Soon after Collegiate could have taken the lead from a corner! The ball swung in from the far side and with waterloo not delaing with it, a low effort came low into the corner! but for the goalkeeper! a superb save from 51 year old Cowley who was able to turn the ball to safety!
Eventually we found the goal to break the dead lock , or rather collegiate did! a corner kick was swung in and taylor rose to meet it, causing a scramble, collegiate could only clear it into the back of their own net! 1-0 - Apparently Mawdsley has claimed it, even though he was cleaning his brillaint new lovely white boots on the half way line!
Waterloo came into the half confortable at 1-0 up but the tie should have been far from over by then!
With Waterloo refreshed it didnt take long for them to get the second, or you could say for Collegiate to add to the OG tally! A second own goal gave waterloo full comand of the game. As stewart put in a dangerous cross for strike partner Swift, who miss it the shot but Collegiate did the rest for him, as a sliced clearance sent the ball into the corner! Again .. Mike Jumps Claiming this one - just goes to show for those who MAY not be getting on many scoresheets this season, but the game needed a definate waterloo scorer, and it came from a bob ball corner! he swung it in brillaintly and Lee Taylor on his debut, scored a goal to remember as he chested it on the edge of the box, but finding his back to goal he unleased an overheaded/scissor strike which found its way into the top corner!
A deserved goal for the debutant who played well in the middle of the park with Mikey Jump whos performance was superb but he tells us this unfortunately is a one off appearance for this season.
The game ended 3-0 and a very good performance, with new faces coming into the side who all showed great promise! Also a special very well done to Vice Skipper Mikey M who wasnt meant to play due to an injury! Its them boots Mate !
